Alex Gibson

As a Learning Experience Designer, Alex envisions, designs, and implements accessible learning experiences that meet user-centered goals. He works alongside learning scientists, subject-matter experts, front-end developers, and engineers to push the boundaries of Universal Design for Learning into innovative, usable, and engaging online and mobile learning environments and tools.

Alex has experienced firsthand the impact of CAST’s work in his own teaching space. His classrooms have been an assortment, with ages from preschool to adult and environments from the outdoors to the computer screen. In the past, Alex started a volunteer organization that hosted literacy and art sessions in a maximum-security prison, hosting programs such as theater, dance, and slam poetry. Alex’s passion for education was solidified by witnessing the humanizing force of education in a place designed to do the opposite. To this day, he remains focused on helping all people achieve justice through education.

After university, Alex pursued a Fulbright grant to teach English as a foreign language in rural Malaysia, where the lack of spoken communication taught him the incredible power of engagement and expression in the classroom. In addition, Alex also designed and hosted multiple overnight English camps to improve students’ interest and confidence in learning English. Beyond his experience in the classroom, Alex has worked with multiple EdTech start-ups to build their digital products for the modern learning environment.

In his free time, Alex enjoys spending time with his dog, Goose, playing soccer, practicing photography, and traveling.
